finaly got the backets in place and lined up to install a new 4X4 mast to reapair the damage done in this inceident dark ness fell befoe before I put up the full new mask to the end of my longest antenna back up to being 44 ft off the ground. on top of the new mast is already in placed with the mast on the ground that second antenna for the kb9rqz reapeater means I hope to have that in operation soon

a new first I writing this for a tweetee (or is for tweeter) neither to be confused with my sweetie KD8CTL

bt I have exploring something I know little about (that is why I am exploring it) like mthe tweetie know about as a much about local prop as I do and at hf that is not much

been using PSK-31 a digital mode meaning I use it access the net as I am doing now and watching the "Dead pool" on DVR

first since I am not sure my tweetee in this is famiier witht digital mode and it is educational anyway I will explain briefly the radio needs an interface like this for my ICOM she uses a yeasu and needs either this or other interface nd software of course

I choose my freqs from here

normaly I start on 20 m 14.07 and stay there till I make a contact or 3 then move down toward 30 40 and even 80 meters trying to get a real feel for propagation

On twiiter I can annouce that Iam starting but I don'tsee derect messages till I ht my email I am in fact some place where phones don't go

I guess 40m near sunset would be the chance to reach my tweetee at some point

been having fun on air with with PSK-31 using a new interface used to use another interface (with the ft847 but going back and forth between mode was frankly a pain I tnded to neglect it. the IC 817 and this interface make things much easier

finaly recieved the backordered brace I need to restroe my wodden masting and achor it to house again so my long wire anttena for 160 etc can be put back into operation of course instaling the bracket is a pretty well out of the question right and likely for at 5 weeks or so

finaly managed to get the conection to my vertical to stay in one piece trhough a set of storm had seris and then fired up with good swr and called cq on 12 15 17 and 40m and someone came back to me loud and clear each time

all in all a nice day on Air and nice till I get the masting fixed on the house (I can start that process

with my wife doing the Wisconsin RenFaire this she has thought oof doing FD from there

looking at the rules looks like she and here friend qualify for 1b making em likely kd8ctl 1B WIS

my wife will be oretaing mostly in the evening so I and wants to keep it very simple since it will be the first she wowill have set up wholely on her own

last she set up a staion for 20m but refused to turn it on till I checked it over. this time she is feeling a bit more confindent

since she is not going to be around I am thinking of staying home and operating 1d or 1 e ( i have droped a note to guys at the ARRL checking some thing on the 1 e that I think my grid intertie system allow for 1 e at 500 watts for me

well been loking at the sation and comparing it to what i had set up about year ago this time when we were merely expecting the anoucement of d-day

I still have the FT847 and it is still one of the rigs I use most often either on 6m SSB of now digatil modes through hf and 6m

added is the primary hf voice staion built around IC -718 a nice rig easier to adjust and operate in many ways than the Ft 847 and it is driving (when

needed sadly whch most of the time at this point in the cycle) an amp the AL-811 which seems to be giving that last db or so that need to be heard

some days

I am a bit shocked that I have a mobile HF set up at this point mostly that the wife wanted the FT 857, programs with every VHF repeater in the area,

form EueClaire down to Green Bay and over to Marquette, and a 10m repeater if we ever get to try it with anttenas for 75m, 20m, and 10 meters with

an autoturner to cover the rest

given the renewed workability of the of the Ft 847 the ft 857 can do what is is mean't to do go hf Mobile with an tennas fo r for 80 and 10 m so far (20 m was backordered oh well) we plan to take it on the road tomorrow going to perhaps esky and Iron Mountian

and the 857 will nice esp for my wife as it memeroies can be renamed to be a bit more transpereant as to where the repeater is

I had thought my older radio the Ft 847 was badly broken...maybe not

let me back up when I got the amp the ameritron 811 it warned me to ground the amp so I grounded the amp and the radio I had attached the IC-718 to to the grounding rod too

I was amazing at the impovement in the radio's preformance.

well tonight I had a brain storm and set the ft 847 in place of the IC718 and coneted to the Ground rod as I had the IC 718 and

one the ft 847 no longer makes a funny flicker on the loewer bands

two test the radios outut with an external SWR metter I find that the full out put of the 847 matchs that of the ic 718 about 100watt despite the yeasues internal meter says something very different

I wil check out the radio transmistion sound when gav get back from her fathers place (she went to vist and attend a craft show in Elkhorn) so sometime sunday or monday I should know if I was simply mistaken about the condiction of the 847 or not

worked him at 1940 local time called him once was told kb station stand by twice and he came back kb9r what and final thrid he got the whole reported 5by 9 but then maybe he was just saying that he was certainly 59 with some noise of other stations trying cut in

My first Voice contact on the band although I owe it to signal report off Nimbusters saying they heard me calling cq on 20m and that I was touch over modualted

tg9anf was prreadable here but I doubt I had a chance with the way the sopot poped op and the station I heard pile up on him was iteresting just to hear hi on 10m at this point in the cycle

not the time I would have expected almost pm local

PS yes I gave it a try but I thik I was seriously our muscled
well i tried I was still impressed for this deep in the bottom of the cycle

worked Belfast tonight hope I can confirm that was easy and the were NO other EU station at all in fact a quick check showed nobody on 20M at all but the folks trying to work this gi3zde made for an interesting and maddening way o spend a a couple of hours I gave up twoice on trying to get though some powefull station that even I could doubling on each other

tired listenng to up het on 80 m the last few nights and nothing I mean NOTHING in great quiving letters I am mildly shocked

I say mildly since I have found hf to be a somewhat shocking experence

I have some DX contacts Morrraco the "best" all on non voice modes

I have yet to make a voice qso that I have not made a simlarl distance on 2 SSB althoough the hf Contact have been of a lower power than 2 SSB contacts and generaly easier all round

well interesting today heard the Up net first time

I am typing today as I read the UP NTS net first time I have been able to hear this net been tweaking the anttneas and slowly improving the station anttena I am chomping at the bit to accuraly get the bigger anttenas up but still much snow

heard net control adknowledgesome 25 staion amusingly I heard him clearly but only a couple of the other stations such w8kp if i am recalling right from bruce crossings

hearing mostly net control but quite geting the call so I can't say I know much about the process yet

pretty noisey so picking out calls is rough but I am learning slowly

it was interesting that they had a pre net set of check ins I wonder if this is local or just normal procedure

interesting to hear the band seem to slowly improve with backsliding at times
well I heard a female Irene I hope I catch her call might encourage my wife to get on the air

I was reading on Copper.net in it forum section the obviously heart felt concern some coders seem to have that code will jus die off if Codetesting is ended. i contrast this wi the fact I a Nocoder would like Code use to end but don't think it ois ever going even if the FCC were persaded to ban Code use

well to get started I need either the R&O (or soem vVEs that can be bribed realy cheap:) as I have spent 5 years in my teen trying and failing to learn Morse Code (obviously I don't plan on USING that mode much althought my wife is loooking at for some reason hopefully the FCC will issue the report and Order later today monday or soon thereafter

well I own a Yeasu FT 847 which is nice nice satleite rig but I not using it much anymore in favor of the IC-910h it is setup with a LONG semirandon wire dipolish antenna and autotuner over all length is about 300 ft and 35 feet in height should be a decent antenna by what I read

realy looking forward most to the lower band at night since that is when I have a lot of dead time and VHJF get realy dead at night aways from the cities one of the real probelm with the tech licens e as curently configured
